Private Blood Tests in Preston — Comprehensive Health Screens from £200

A blood test is one of the most powerful tools in modern medicine. It can pick up the earliest signs of disease, confirm or rule out a diagnosis, track how well your body is functioning, and tell you whether the lifestyle changes you've made are actually working. At Northwest Health in Bamber Bridge, Preston, we offer private blood tests and full health screens with every result reviewed by a GMC-registered GP — so you don't just get numbers, you get an explanation and a plan.

When a private blood test makes sense
A private blood test is the right choice when you need:
Same-week appointment without waiting for an NHS slot.
A wider panel than the NHS typically offers.
A specific test the NHS does not routinely fund.
A health MOT as part of proactive, preventive care.
To monitor a chronic condition between NHS reviews.
To investigate symptoms such as fatigue, weight change, mood changes, or low energy.
To check fertility, hormone, or thyroid status.
To track training, performance, or recovery if you're an athlete.
Confidential testing for any reason you'd rather not discuss with your NHS GP.

Our blood test packages
We offer four tiers of health screen, plus targeted single-system panels and individual tests. Every package includes the blood draw, laboratory analysis, and a GP review of your results.

Silver Health Screen — from £200
A focused panel covering the essentials of general health. Includes full blood count, kidney function, liver function, cholesterol profile, glucose, thyroid function, and key vitamins (B12, D, folate). Ideal for a first health check, an annual review, or investigating mild non-specific symptoms.

Gold Health Screen — from £350
A broader panel adding inflammation markers, iron studies, key hormones, urate, magnesium, and a more detailed thyroid profile. Suitable for anyone wanting a deeper look at metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory health.

Platinum Health Screen — from £500
Our most comprehensive screen, covering more than 80 biomarkers across blood, urine, and metabolic function. Includes full hormone profile, advanced cardiovascular markers, complete vitamin and mineral panel, and detailed inflammation and immune markers. Recommended for proactive health planning, longevity assessment, or anyone over 40 looking for a thorough baseline.

Health MOT — from £450
Combines a full blood and urine screen with an extended GP consultation, blood pressure check, BMI and body composition assessment, and a written health summary with action points. The most patient-friendly way to understand where your health is now and what to focus on next.

Targeted panels
If you'd rather test a specific area than a broad screen, we also offer focused panels including:
Thyroid panel — from £120
Hormone profile (male or female) — from £180
Cardiovascular risk panel — from £200
Diabetes and metabolic panel — from £150
Fertility panel — from £220
Sports performance panel — from £180
Vitamin and mineral panel — from £150
Liver function — from £80
Iron studies — from £80
We also arrange almost any individual test on request. If you've been told you need a specific test and would prefer not to wait, call us and we'll quote on the day.

What's included in every package
Pre-test guidance — fasting instructions, timing advice, and what to bring.
Blood draw by a trained clinician at our Bamber Bridge clinic.
Laboratory analysis by an accredited UK lab.
Results within 24 to 72 hours for most tests (some specialist tests take longer).
Full written report explaining every result in plain English.
Telephone or in-person review with a GMC-registered GP.
Onward referrals to imaging or specialists if anything needs further investigation.
Repeat or follow-up testing arranged where clinically appropriate.

What happens if something is abnormal
If your results show anything that needs action, we will contact you promptly at no additional charge. Most abnormal findings are mild and easily addressed — vitamin deficiencies, borderline cholesterol, or thyroid changes that just need monitoring. Where a result indicates something more significant, we explain what it means, arrange any onward investigations (imaging, specialist referral), and support you through the next steps.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the appointment take?
The blood draw itself takes around 10 minutes. If you've booked a Health MOT, allow up to 45 minutes for the full assessment.

Do I need to fast?
It depends on which tests are included. We send pre-test instructions when you book. As a general rule, if cholesterol or glucose is included, you'll need to fast for 8 to 12 hours beforehand. Water is fine.

How quickly do I get results?
Most results are back within 24 to 72 hours. Some specialist tests take longer — we'll tell you the timing for your specific package at booking.

Will I be told if something is wrong?
Yes. Every result is reviewed by a GP. If anything needs action, we'll contact you to explain and arrange next steps at no extra charge.

Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book any test directly. If you've been advised by another clinician to have specific tests, just bring their letter or list with you.
Will my results be shared with my NHS GP?
Only with your written consent. We will provide a summary to share with your NHS GP if you'd like, but nothing is shared without your permission.

Can I claim this on my health insurance?
Many policies cover diagnostic blood tests. We can provide an itemised invoice in your insurer's preferred format. Check with your insurer first.

What's the difference between this and NHS blood tests?
NHS blood tests are usually limited to what's clinically necessary for a specific symptom or condition. Our private screens are broader, faster, and reviewed by a GP who has time to explain each result and what it means for you.
